With similar travel times between Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City, the bedroom community of McLouth sits as a home for 1,237 Kansans according to 2019 data. The small town has a few things to offer including a flower shop, a fabric store, and a new bakery. It also holds a well-maintained park, a memorial for soldiers of McLouth, and an interesting boulder in the middle of one of their streets. However, of all the things the little town has to offer, Mayor Keith Meador, who has lived in McLouth for 34 years, highlighted the people of the town as being the most special feature in the community. He shared a tearjerking story of how the town came together last year after an accident took the life of a local boy. The boy loved dump trucks as his dad was a dump truck driver and that’s what he said he wanted to be. His funeral procession was made up of dump trucks, cranes, and other heavy-duty vehicles. Everyone in town wore orange as it was his favorite color and orange ribbons were everywhere. The fire department did a pancake feed for the family as well.
