Trans Activist Vandalizes Republican Representative's Business in Leavenworth

LEAVENWORTH - The largest Thai restaurant chain in Kansas, the Baan Thai Restaurants are “dedicated to bringing a unique, authentic, Thai dining experience.” The Manhattan and Leavenworth Baan Thai Restaurants are owned by Kansas Rep. Pat Proctor (R—Leavenworth) and his wife Aree Proctor.
Just after 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, the Baan Thai Restaurant in Leavenworth posted a picture of their restaurant after a trans activist spray painted on one of their walls, ‘TRANS UNFRIENDLY DO NOT SHOP.’
Along with the picture, the restaurant stated that things have “gone too far,” releasing the following statement,
“This attack is completely unfair. Our restaurant has nothing to do with politics. We have never refused service to anyone based on gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or religion. But yet these intolerant extremists have attacked the livelihoods of the entire Baan Thai team.
“The people who defaced our restaurant last night have no idea how hard we have worked, have no idea how much we have sacrificed to serve the people of this city and provide jobs for our neighbors in this community. The people who did this will not intimidate us or make us go away. The people who did this will not win.”
We reached out to Rep. Proctor via email who claimed this is not the first time their restaurant was targeted, stating the Kansas City Temple of Satan protested outside their Leavenworth restaurant prior to Value Them Both. Rep. Proctor said the “activist in question” is apart of the Temple of Satan and during the protest, they were “armed, in tactical gear, and using a bullhorn.”
While no names have been given, there is an ongoing police investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Rep. Proctor has received several offers from community members to repaint the wall for free.
“While some of the most vocal leftists have been predictably hateful, the vast majority of the community has been incredibly supportive,” Rep. Proctor wrote in an email to The Kansas Constitutional. “We have been swamped with business—including a lot of people who have never tried our restaurant before—ever since the incident.”
While he was not sure if any other Baan Thai Restaurants had been targeted, Rep. Proctor said they were bracing themselves for more attacks.
Rep. Proctor has voted in favor of a lot of women and child protection bills that the radical trans/queer community despises including the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act which recently came into law after an override of Governor Laura Kelly’s veto.
Other bills include the Women’s Bill of Rights which essentially defines what a male and female is across state law. SB 228 which ensures, through the language, that males and females are separated when incarcerated. SB 26 which is meant to discourage practitioners from performing gender reassignment surgery on anyone under the age of 18 years. And the Parents’ Bill of Rights which allows parents to pull their child out of coursework that goes against their beliefs without the child being penalized academically. All of these bills were enrolled and presented to the governor Friday, March 14, 2023.
However, Rep. Proctor said this attack is not just a response to his voting record, but also due to an “ongoing controversy” over him and local school board member Vanessa Reid who exposed “transgender indoctrination” at David Brewer Elementary School in Leavenworth.
Courtney Richard, a mother of one of the students at the school who had no problem with the assignment, told KCTV5 that her daughter’s assignment was: ‘My school library is for everyone.’
“There were children who drew pictures of handicapped children, children of different colors. Her, along with five other students, drew LGBTQ-related pictures,” Richard told KCTV5.
Proctor said otherwise.
“There were about 40 drawings there and over half of them were pride flags,” said Rep. Proctor. “The vast majority of folks in my district believe that talking about transgenderism and bisexuality is not an appropriate discussion topic for 8 and 9-year-olds.”
Rep. Proctor is not the only one who has dealt with issues of aggression from LGBTQ activists. Kansas Rep. Marvin Robinson (D—Wyandotte) claimed a Democrat colleague told him “he should go die” and he has “blood on his hands” for his vote that helped overturn Governor Kelly’s veto on the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.
Proctor said he isn’t aware of any other incidents, but would not be surprised if other Legislators are targeted.
