Our 2A rights are being challenged at every level. Recently there was an instance I witnessed where a person's weapons were taken by family because they and law enforcement thought the owner was suffering from a mental illness because he claimed that people were trespassing on his property and he thought he was seeing strange activity from the property next door. When law enforcement arrived the violators were gone and no evidence was found despite security camera footage which clearly showed strange activity. After several visits by law enforcement with the same outcome they made a surprise visit where the individual was told that he wasn't in trouble they just wanted to talk. What happened next was a violation of due process and deception by law enforcement to convince the family, who knew nothing about the law and legal process, to confiscate the weapons and would not return them until the individual went through a behavioral and numerous other examinations, which he did voluntarily, to prove he wasn't mentally ill even though there was never an arrest, a criminal charge, no domestic violence or restraining order, and no court ordered examination. As a result this person was told to leave his home by his spouse of over 40 years who wanted a divorce and is shunned by the rest of the family and the community. He is now homeless and living on a meager retirement income. I wish him all the best.
