Fantastic job Ian, a great history lesson! After living in Colorado with our vaccine injured son and having the opportunity to try cannabis edibles during aggressive behaviors and melts down. The episode stop in less then 30 minutes. There is no treatment for vaccine injury, I am pro legalizing marijuana.
There's always a fine line to walk. Yes, we certainly don't want to throw people in jail for using marijuana for it's medicinal benefits. And throwing people in jail for long periods when they are trying to lessen their misery in ways that don't hurt others - that's bad as well.
But- I don't think marijuana is a fountain of health. There are some studies that show pot reduces initiative in users, it may reduce intelligence, it certainly impairs driving and isn't good to smoke while pregnant. Making something legal WILL increases its use. We need to ask the question, is that something we are willing to do?
We now have the experience of several other states with legal pot, both for medicinal and for recreational purposes. We should look at their experience - at all aspects - road safety, school performance, cancer rates, crime rates, etc.
